Introduction to Artistic Discovery

Art Class becomes an “Art Studio” where students are required to be responsible for the production and completion of their own artwork. They are also taught how to maintain the studio space and treat mediums. Art history, aesthetics and critiques will be taught. Artsonia is utilized for a student portfolio and art class assessment.

Artistic Discovery

The Elements of Art and Principles of Design will be taught through the use of various art mediums. Students will discover artists, art history, aesthetics and critiquing while creating 2D and 3D artwork. Artsonia is utilized for a student portfolio and art class assessment.

Art I: Introduction to Visual Art

Art History, Art forms, Mediums, Techniques, and Styles will be discovered this year. Right Brain function will be emphasized in each class. We will learn how to keep a sketchbook and use it for future artistic endeavors. Artsonia is utilized for a student portfolio and art class assessment.

Art II: Visual Art

Processes, techniques and art styles will be learned with a personal emphasis on “Individual Style.” Artsonia is utilized for a student portfolio and art class assessment.

Art III: Introduction to Art Exploration

Students will be taught how to create a piece of art that elicits a response from the viewer. The art may be political, social, satirical or spiritual in nature. Students will discover artists, art history, aesthetics and critiquing while creating 2-D and 3-D artwork. Artsonia is utilized for a student portfolio and art class assessment.

Art IV: Art Exploration

Students will develop deeper and more profound works of visual art that reflect the maturation of their creative and problem-solving skills by experimentation & exploration of mediums/techniques. They will exhibit the understanding of the interplay of different media, styles, forms, techniques, and processes in the creation of their own work. Artsonia is utilized for a student portfolio and art class assessment.

11th Grade Art Honors

Art Honors is a PreAP® 2-D Art and Design course that will prepare students for the AP® Portfolio. Students will explore topics for their Sustained Investigation and gain skills needed to complete the portfolio in 12th grade. AP® 2-D Art and Design is a laborious course in which students are persistently working towards evolving their portfolio through process and risk taking. This course is a college level course intended for students who are seriously interested in creating their art. Students will begin to create a portfolio with a minimum of 15 pieces of artwork in the areas of Quality and Sustained Investigation (15) pieces created using an “Investigation.” Students will be expected to develop mastery in concept, composition and technical skills of 2D Art & Design or Drawing (whichever they choose as their strong suit). Students will engage in group critiques, individual critiques and instructional conversations with the teacher during the course to receive feedback on their progress.

AP® 2-D Art and Design

AP® 2-D Art and Design is a laborious course in which students are persistently working towards evolving their portfolio. This course is a college level course intended for students who are seriously interested in creating their art. Students will create a portfolio containing 15 pieces of artwork in the areas of Sustained Investigation and 5 Selected Works as outlined below. Students may use artwork created prior to the AP® course as well as outside of the course when compiling their portfolio. Students will be expected to develop mastery in concept, composition and technical skills of 2D design. Students will engage in group critiques, individual critiques and instructional conversations with the teacher during the course to receive feedback on their progress. Portfolios are submitted digitally to the College Board to score.
